A place to stay – Amsterdam

PictureCanal Home – Amsterdam

The ticket into Amsterdam and out of Paris was booked with Malaysian airlines, three weeks leave approved for both Mr. Techno and myself and then the itinerary planning truly began almost a year ago now… however as I read and searched websites for a hotel that was well located which also would offer a quad room (without breaking the bank ) I began to regret my decision to have Amsterdam on the itinerary…

So many poor reviews of hotels, cramped, noisy, badly located etc.. the 2nd issue was then finding a hotel which offered quad rooms – the triple room was a regular option however the price really jumped if you needed a quad room.. then I found a little gem…

a self-contained apartment in a quiet street…with canal view, typical Amsterdam style building and steep stairs to boot! – Amsterdam Canal Home
We are not luxury travellers by any means, we crimp and save for family holidays and live a rather simple daily life… however I need our accommodation to be clean, well located, user-friendly and safe.   The apartment ticked all the boxes for us.

The apartment comprises of a main bedroom with a double bed, large living space with a fold out couch (perfect for the kids) a kitchen and a small bathroom.  The large windows facing the main street have a view over a canal and trees. The bedroom and kitchen windows give access to a small terrace with views into various gardens.  The apartment offers space, is airy and welcoming.  The bonus of renting an apartment is that you can self cater and thus really save on the cost of meals.  In some cases on this trip,  dinner for the four of us was anywhere between (EUR 60–80 in a restaurant so a kitchen saved us a few bucks)

The owners Alex and Nurit live in the apartment above and are on hand to assist you with any information you might need. Nurit went out of her way to assist us, when I needed a Doctor for my son she found contacts etc.

The apartment is well located, not far from the museums, Vondel Park and the flower market.

  • 1 bedroom with small wash basin and wardrobe
  • Living area with dining table, pull out sofa bed
  • Free WiFi
  • Television
  • Kitchen – fully equipped with fridge, stove, microwave/oven
  • Bathroom: toilet and shower

The Amsterdam Canal Home can easily be reached from the airport via bus and or from Central station – depending on how you arrive into Amsterdam.

There is a supermarket located a few blocks away, a cute restaurant around the corner open for lunch and dinner (Cafe Toussaint) which has great reviews – we did not get a change to dine there though!

Note: The bathroom is small and a very tall person would struggle a little – The stairs are very steep and would be tricky for some people to manage especially with luggage.

Please contact Nurit and Alex next time you visit and book this place, I wish we had stayed longer…
